TODAY (March 1) IN ISTANBUL (The Continent Post) – The official death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and neighboring Syria last month has risen to 45,089, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported on Wednesday.
More than 108,000 people in Turkey were hurt by the earthquake and the subsequent strong tremors, and millions were forced to seek refuge in tents or look for alternative cities to live in, Reuters reported.
Even though President Tayyip Erdogan has promised to have houses rebuilt within a year, it will be many months before thousands of people can finally move out of makeshift shelters like tents and shipping containers and end the daily grind of waiting in line for food.
